Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 July 2026
Dry Run helps you rehearse presentations: you record a take, and we analyse it to give you coaching. That means we handle something personal - video of your face and voice - so this policy is written to be read, not skimmed. It explains exactly what we collect, what happens to your recordings, who processes them for us, and the controls you have.
1. Who we are
Dry Run is operated by The Dry Run Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17292097, registered office [REGISTERED OFFICE ADDRESS]). We are the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: hello@thedry.run.
2. What we collect
- Account data: your name, email address and, if you sign in with Google, your Google profile photo.
- About you preferences (optional): your role, how often you present, typical audience size and your biggest speaking challenge. These tune your coaching.
- Recordings: the video and audio of takes you upload or record in the app.
- Transcripts and reports: the transcript of each take and the coaching report we generate from it, including scores, evidence quotes and practice drills.
- Usage and pass data: which plan or pass you hold, how many takes you have used, and technical logs needed to run and secure the service.
- Usage events (first-party): which screens you visit and key actions (signing up, starting a checkout, submitting a take), recorded by our own service - never by a third-party analytics provider. If you arrived from one of our ads or posts, we record which one (the campaign tags in the link) so we know which of our messages actually help people find us. Details in section 9.
- Payment data: handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details; we keep only the record of what you bought.
- If you share a report: the email address you share it with, so we can let that person view the report and notify them by email that you shared it. They see that one report - scores, evidence quotes and drills - and nothing else in your account. You can revoke a share at any time.
- Event date (optional): if you tell us when a presentation is, we use it to show you a countdown and to send two optional emails around that date - a reminder a few days before, and a one-tap "how did it go?" afterwards.
3. What happens to your video
This is the part most people care about, so here it is plainly:
- Your video is uploaded to private storage that only you (and our processing pipeline) can access. It is analysed to produce your transcript and coaching report.
- Video review is included in every pass we currently sell, so we keep your video for 30 days after each take - that is what lets you watch it back inside your report. We re-encode it to a smaller file for storage. We warn you by email and push notification 3 days before it expires, and then it is permanently deleted.
- On legacy passes that did not include video review, the video file is deleted from storage as soon as processing finishes. Either way, the transcript and report remain in your account.
- If you record a take before you hold a pass, we save it in your private storage so it is waiting for you after checkout - for up to 48 hours. Submit it or discard it in the app; if you do neither, it is deleted automatically.
- You can delete any report (and its video) yourself at any time, including permanently and immediately.
- Short practice drill recordings are always deleted immediately after they are judged; they are never retained.
4. How your content is processed
Two specialist providers process your takes on our behalf: AssemblyAI converts the audio to a transcript, and Anthropic's Claude model analyses the transcript and a small number of video stills to write your coaching report. Our agreements with these providers restrict them to processing your content in order to provide their service to us.
Your reports include a comparison against an anonymous benchmark pool. Contributions to that pool are anonymous by construction: they contain scores and statistics only, never names, recordings, transcripts or any other identifier.
5. Who processes data for us
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication and private file storage |
| Railway | Hosts the app and the processing pipeline |
| AssemblyAI | Speech-to-text transcription of your takes |
| Anthropic | AI analysis that writes your coaching report |
| Resend | Sends service emails (report ready, expiry warnings) |
| Stripe | Payment processing |
| Optional sign-in with your Google account |
Some of these providers process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on recognised safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, and adequacy regulations where they apply.
6. Why we are allowed to process your data
- Contract: analysing your takes, producing reports, and keeping your video for the 30-day video review included in your pass is the service you signed up for. You can cut the 30 days short at any time by deleting the take or its report.
- Legitimate interests: service emails about your own reports and presentations (including sharing notifications and any event date reminders you set), keeping the service secure, improving coaching quality using aggregate, non-identifying statistics, and measuring - with our own first-party events, section 9 - how the product is used and which of our own campaigns work.
We do not send marketing emails. If that ever changes, it will be opt-in with an unsubscribe link in every message.
7. How long we keep things
- Retained videos: 30 days from upload, then permanently deleted.
- Reports and transcripts: until you delete them. Deleted reports sit in your bin for 30 days (you can restore or permanently delete them there), then are purged.
- Account data: until you delete your account. Account deletion removes your recordings, reports, transcripts, preferences and sign-in record. Usage events (section 9) are anonymised at that moment rather than deleted: the account identifier on them is replaced with a random one, so they survive only as aggregate trend data that cannot be linked back to you.
- Anonymous benchmark contributions (section 4) are the exception: because they never carry your name, recordings, transcripts or any other identifier back to you, there is nothing in them to delete on request, and they are not removed when you delete your account.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to processing, and take your data elsewhere. Most of this you can do directly in the app (download transcripts and videos, delete reports, delete your account); for anything else email hello@thedry.run. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
9. Cookies and tracking
The app uses only what is essential to keep you signed in. There are no advertising trackers and no third-party analytics cookies.
We do measure how Dry Run is used, but we built that measurement ourselves so it could follow stricter rules than the industry default:
- Usage events go only to our own service and are stored in our own database. No analytics provider, ad network or social platform receives them.
- No cookies and no lasting identifiers are used for it. On our marketing site nothing at all is stored on your device. In the app, a random session marker lives only for your current browser tab and disappears when you close it - visits cannot be linked together, deliberately.
- Once you are signed in, events are linked to your account so the numbers are accurate; we use them in aggregate to see where the product loses or confuses people, and which of our own campaigns brought people who found it useful. If you delete your account, these events are anonymised on the spot - the identifier is replaced with a random one and they persist only as unlinkable aggregate data (section 7).
- What we never do: sell this data, share it with advertisers, or send it to platforms like Meta or TikTok. Ad platforms only ever see their own click counts, nothing from inside Dry Run.
10. Age
Dry Run is for adults. You must be at least 18 to use it.
11. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
